The Sorrel-Weed House was built from 1838 through 1840. It's one of Savannah, Georgia’s most popular buildings considered to be haunted. It was opened to the public in 2005 for Tourists.
The home has an incredible story, a dark history for a perfect haunting. The home was built by a merchant named Francis Sorrel. Francis had slaves that he kept on the property that lived in the carriage house which was just across the courtyard from his mansion. As the Story goes Francis Sorrel was having an ongoing affair with one of his slaves named Molly. Mrs. Matilda Sorrel (Francis’s wife) eventually found out about Francis and Molly’s relationship and committed suicide by jumping off the balcony of the mansion and landing in the courtyard below. It is said that Mrs. Sorrel haunts the home to this day.
According to the story Molly was found dead about a week later. She supposed was found in the room where Francis and herself would carry out their love affair. Nobody really ever found out who hanged Molly; some believe it was Francis himself and others speculate the Sorrel children trying for revenge, it may have even been another slave. No matter who it was it doesn’t change the fact that Molly is said to also haunt the Sorrel-Weed House.
Recently, Janay Rickwalder captured what she thinks could be a ghost at the Sorrel-Weed House. She was on a ghost tour in Savannah, she captured a white swoosh captured image on her phone. Janay also claims to have seen floating orbs while looking at her phone in camera mode. Although the white anomaly captured in the video below is a little eerie, we’re not so convinced it’s a ghost. What do you think?
